The Kerala Forest Department has launched an AI-powered platform called WildGuard to monitor endangered species like the lion-tailed macaque and Nilgiri tahr. The system uses motion sensor cameras and AI recognition software to log real-time movement patterns and potential threats. The program, developed in partnership with WII and a local tech firm, has already identified poaching hotspots. Data from WildGuard will also be used to inform eco-tourism policies. The state plans to replicate this model in all major wildlife sanctuaries by 2027.
